TL;DR: The Need to Know

The month: Downtown San Antonio events in September 2026 stack up fast: El Grito and Fiestas Patrias at Historic Market Square on September 12 and 13, Mrs. Doubtfire at the Majestic September 15 to 20, Jazz'SAlive at Hemisfair's Civic Park on September 25 and 26, and the Rey Feo Superhero River Parade on Saturday, September 26.
The home base: Pink Shark, 203 N Presa St, San Antonio, TX 78205. A block off the River Walk, two blocks from the Aztec Theatre, a few blocks from the Majestic, and a short walk from Hemisfair and the convention center.
The order: Shark Hour every day from 3 to 8 PM, with $5 off, 99 cent East Coast oysters until 8 PM or sell out, and $9 martini flights. The kitchen closes at 8 PM too, so eat early.
The nights: DJs in the Back Room every Friday and Saturday until 2 AM, Live Band Karaoke on Wednesdays.

Downtown San Antonio events in September 2026 do not spread themselves out politely. The city stacks a free two day jazz festival, a river parade, a Broadway run, a Mexican Independence celebration, a UTSA home game, and a stack of conventions into the same four weeks, most of it within a fifteen minute walk of the River Walk. Pink Shark sits in the middle of that map at 203 N Presa St, so here is the month laid out the way we would plan it: what is happening, how far it is from our front door, and what to drink before and after.

Downtown San Antonio Events in September 2026, Weekend by Weekend

September 9 to 13: Kany García, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and Fiestas Patrias

Kany García brings the Puerta Abierta Tour to the Majestic Theatre on Wednesday, September 9 at 8 PM. The Majestic is on Houston Street, a few blocks from us, and Wednesday is Live Band Karaoke night in our Back Room, which is a reasonable way to keep singing after the show.

Thursday, September 10 is Comedy Bang! Bang! Live at the Aztec Theatre at 8 PM. The Aztec is two blocks west of us on Commerce, and Thursday is also Downtown Thursday, the city program that runs through the end of 2026 with free parking in the city garages after 5 PM. Park once, walk everything.

The weekend belongs to El Grito y Fiestas Patrias at Historic Market Square on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, starting at noon both days. It is free, hosted by the Consulate General of Mexico, with live Mexican music, folklórico dancers, and food vendors. Market Square is about a mile west of Presa Street along Commerce. When the mariachis wrap, the Back Room has Jarvis & Jacquis with Vizn on Friday the 11th and Vizn with Mosdef Maro on Saturday the 12th, both running to 2 AM.

Build Show Live is at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center September 10 to 12, and the IFDA Solutions Conference follows September 13 to 15. If you are wearing a badge that week, we are a five minute walk from the convention center.

September 14 to 20: Mrs. Doubtfire, Diez y Seis, and a Loud Saturday at the Aztec

Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15 and Diez y Seis de Septiembre lands on Wednesday the 16th. That same week, Mrs. Doubtfire runs at the Majestic from Tuesday, September 15 through Sunday, September 20, with 7:30 PM curtains on the weeknights and matinees on the 19th and 20th. A 7:30 PM show means you can do the whole of Shark Hour first: 3 to 8 PM is generous enough to cover a dozen oysters, a martini flight, and the walk over.

The Aztec runs The Midnight with Bonnie McKee on Monday the 14th, Artemas on Friday the 18th, and W.A.S.P. with KK's Priest on Saturday the 19th. The Southwest Veterinary Symposium fills the convention center September 17 to 20. In the Back Room, Friday the 18th is Jacquis with Jarvis and Saturday the 19th is Vizn with Shelby GT.

September 22 to 27: The Weekend the Whole City Shows Up Downtown

This is the one to plan around. Squeeze plays the Majestic on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 PM. Jerry Seinfeld is there on Friday, September 25 at 7 PM, and the same night Alicia Villarreal plays the Aztec at 8 PM.

Jazz'SAlive, the free festival that turns 43 this year, runs at Hemisfair's Civic Park on Friday, September 25 from 4 to 11 PM and Saturday, September 26 from 11 AM to 11 PM, with Arturo Sandoval and Delfeayo Marsalis headlining. Civic Park is a short walk from Presa Street, and general admission costs nothing.

Saturday, September 26 is also the Rey Feo Superhero River Parade, illuminated floats on the river with the Arneson River Theatre as the anchor, and UTSA hosts Colorado State at the Alamodome about a mile east of us. The MGMA Medical Practice Excellence Conference is in town September 23 to 30, and the National Society for Histotechnology arrives September 26 to 29. Every one of those crowds ends up on the River Walk at some point that Saturday night.

The Back Room answers with Jarvis & Jacquis with Vizn on Friday the 25th and Davincii with Bitty Scorp on Saturday the 26th. Lineups shift, so check the events calendar before you build a night around a name.

The Home Base a Block Off the River Walk

Every event above ends the same way: a few thousand people standing on a sidewalk deciding where to go next. Here is our pitch for being the answer.

Shark Hour runs every single day from 3 to 8 PM, weekends included, which matters in a neighborhood where most happy hours quit on Friday afternoon. It is $5 off during the window, East Coast oysters are 99 cents each until 8 PM or until they sell out, whichever comes first, and a $9 martini flight lets you pick three from the classic, cucumber, dirty, raspberry lemon drop, and pineapple upside down cake. On Fridays and Saturdays from 3 to 4 PM, the Frozen Banana Daiquiri and the Frozen Strawberry Margarita drop to 50 cents in both rooms. We wrote the full breakdown in our complete Shark Hour guide.

The kitchen closes at 8 PM, the same time Shark Hour ends, so food is a before the show decision, not an after: the Little Hottie and the Prosciutto Arugula pizzas are $14 for the 12 inch, the chips duo with house made red salsa and queso is $8, and the charcuterie board is $12 in the Front Room. After 8 PM the bar keeps going until 2 AM with a 7 ounce Miller High Life at $3 and a daiquiri at $7. The whole lineup for both rooms is on the menus page.

Then there is the Back Room, through the hallway past the vending machine: its own bar, a shell stage, a disco ball shark hanging over the floor, and DJs every Friday and Saturday until 2 AM. Wednesdays are Live Band Karaoke, which we have argued about at length and stand by.
